Frequently asked questions.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is the practice of supporting people to be able to engage in the things that ‘occupy’ their time. This includes things someone may need to do such as personal hygeine, work/school, organise their belongings. It also includes activities an individual may want to do such as playing sport, engaging in hobbies or socialising. Occupational Therapy is person-centred meaning that we are guided by what is important or meaningful to the individual.

What can I expect?

Every family is unique and has a different journey throughout OT. Personal priorities and goals may mean OT looks different for each child. You can expect an initial meeting with us to set goals and agree on a frequency of supports. You can expect consistent and open communication throughout the therapy process to allow for continuity of care across your family and any other professionals involved. At the end of an agreed service period you will be supported through appropriate next steps, depending on what your family needs. These next steps may include:

Continue OT for another term

Reduce frequency of sessions

Pull back on support and monitor for a term

We’ve reached our goals and no longer require support!

Do I need a referral?

No referral needed! You are able to contact us directly to book an appointment. You may be eligible for a medicare referral from your GP which will give you access to a rebate on your sessions for 5 sessions in a calendar year. You may also be able to claim occupational therapy on your private health insurance, however this will be dependent on your provider and level of cover.

Can I use my NDIS Funding?

Yes! You are able to use your NDIS funds if you are plan-managed or self-managed.
